It began with a simple act of kindness to save an abused, injured dog from becoming one more victim in the Iraq war.

Dennis, you are a wonderful person. Nubs will be the best dog ever to you. America raises the best!!!
I'd like to see the same amount of money be raised to be donated to an AMERICAN animal shelter to save a few cats and dogs over here. Or maybe just send a certified check to a household in this country that lost their HUMAN loved one over in Iraq. Don't get me wrong, I love cats, dogs, deer, bunnies, etc. But come on! Are we not supposed to hold HUMAN life more dear than an animals? Yeah, I'd like save all of the animals on earth from death, but isn't there some higher authority that is the voice of reason for the rest of us that is making and sticking to policy?? Human life is our first priority. We haven't even figured out how to make that be too precious to put in harms way, how can a cat or dog be so precious to one person that we expend so much money and time in ensuring we get them safely to this country?? For every cat or dog 'rescued' from Iraq...I demand one SOLDIER come home too! Then, I will get behind this ridiculous rescue plan!!!
I think it is an overall atrocity; the animals that are left to fend for themselves after
this ignorant war. Look at how many children and other help-less human beings
are left to fend for themselves. The animals did not VOTE, did not partake in this
political debacle. Nor did the kids. I think the entire thing is disgusting.
If I could, I would start a camp for WAR LORN / TORN ANIMALS --- dogs, cats, you name it.
Yeah --- like we all wanted this war --- let's all think back just a few years.
Think back --- take a step back and get a grip. WE DID NOT WANT THIS.
NOR DID THE ANIMALS or CHILDREN of IRAQ.
I would adopt them all; but I am sure there is a hefty price tag for that adoption.

I know Im a little late in this conversation, but I have some imput as well to share. My husband has been in Iraq since 2006. He had never been away from family and his home before this so emotionaly this was hard for him. He was given a 5 week old puppy by another soldier that was going home. He grew to love Charlie ( thats her name ) Others in his group all pitched in to take care of her. They work on the Iraq side training them to be able to take back control of there country. Charlie was a working dog. She alerted the guys when anyone approached the shop and only asked for a handful of food and a pat on the head in return. I agree that we have more then enough animals stateside that need help, but if humans would do there part as responsible owners and have there pets spayed or neutered we wouldnt have as many in need. Charlie made her way home to SC in June of 2008 by the program Operation Baghdad Pups. This isnt a free for all. There is a financial commitment involved from the owners wishing to adopt, and a strict criteria that has to be followed. I would support any soldier who befriends an animal, for some thats all they have, not to mention after the horror they see day in and day out of innocense lost, a puppy or kitten is a small piece of home, which makes them remember why they are there to begin with. Never post negative thoughts on issues that you cant begin to understand until you have slept on a cold ground snuggled up to a gun on one side and a dog on another, hopeing they both respond when needed.
Thanks :-)
